PhonePe Google Pay Pytam

This means that if any such inactive number is linked to your bank account, then you may face problems in transactions done through UPI.

NPCI's new decision: NPCI has issued these new guidelines keeping in mind the increasing cyber crimes. Under this, it is necessary to remove the mobile numbers which are not being used or are inactive from the banking and UPI system. There is a risk of fraud through these numbers, especially when these numbers are issued in someone else's name.

UPI and mobile number relation: To make payment through UPI

The mobile number linked to your bank account plays a vital role as it is your main means of identification. When you make a payment, this number ensures that the money is reaching the right person. If the number is no longer active or has been given to someone else, the payment you make may go to the wrong account and the transaction may fail.

What to do? If a mobile number is linked to your bank account which is no longer active, you need to contact your telecom provider (Jio, Airtel, Vi, BSNL) to ensure that the number is active in your name. If the number is inactive, you can get it activated immediately or get a new mobile number updated in your bank account.

NPCI has directed banks and UPI apps to update the list of mobile numbers that have been deleted every week to ensure that inactive numbers are removed from the banking system.
